HPCB Seminar: Health Promotion Foundations Course: Building capacity for evidence-informed health promotion practice

This webinar provides an overview of current research on the impact of alcohol marketing on different populations; highlights best practices in alcohol marketing policy; and identifies and discusses knowledge gaps to support future work in this area.

Additionally, our guest presenter, Dr. Samantha Cukier will present the results of her research on alcohol marketing on television, in the context of alcohol marketing in the general media.

Presenters: Jason LeMar and Samantha Cukier

Jason provides training and support services to Ontario’s public health and health care stakeholders with a special focus on alcohol policy. Jason is an active participant on national and provincial committees that focus on alcohol use and policy implications, providing strategic advice and content expertise, including the Low Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines working group. , Jason previously worked for Cancer Care Ontario and the Ontario Public Health Association, providing technical assistance, training, and consultation support directly to Ontario’s public health units.

Samantha is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College where she is working on projects investigating the relationship between alcohol marketing and underage drinking. Samantha completed her PhD at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, during which time she was a research fellow at the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth. Samantha’s research interests bring together public health policy, alcohol marketing and media psychology. Prior to her graduate studies, Samantha worked for Addiction Services in Nova Scotia as the Social Marketing Coordinator, Alcohol Strategy. Samantha completed an MBA, and MA in Health Promotion at Dalhousie University and has been teaching at Dalhousie’s School of Health and Human Performance and School of Health Sciences.
